Pippin Audition Information:

 

SHOW DESCRIPTION:

Pippin is a 1972 musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Roger O. Hirson. Bob Fosse, who directed the original Broadway production, also contributed to the libretto. The musical uses the premise of a mysterious performance troupe, led by the Leading Player, to tell the story of Pippin, a young prince on his search for meaning and significance. The fourth wall is broken numerous times during most traditional productions. This production will be cast with actors 17 years and older with the exception of Theo.

VIDEO AUDITIONS:

Video auditions will be accepted for this production. Please send both vocal and dance audition videos to megansiojo@gmail.com by April 25th @ 6 pm.  

CALLBACKS:

April 26th, 2025 @ 12 pm - 3 pm

WHAT TO PREPARE:

Vocal: 16-32 bars of a song in the style of the show. Please do not sing a song from the show. A piano accompanist will be available at auditions, so please bring sheet music in your key.

Dance: A dance audition video will be posted at a later date.

Callbacks are invitation only. All callback info will be sent out after auditions have been completed on April 25th. 

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

Leading Player: (Any gender. Any Age 17+)the ultimate 'ring leader.' Masterfully charming and manipulative, the Leading Player is a chameleon of sorts. Guides Pippin through his own story and tries to intervene at the end. excellent dancer. Obsessed with putting on a great show for the audience.

Pippin: (Male Presenting can play 17-30 years old) Our story's young and confused protagonist. He is longing to find his purpose in life. Naive, innocent, and discontent. Eventually finds love, and meaning in life, with Catherine and Theo.

Charlemagne: (Male Presenting, can play 35+ years old) Pippin's demanding father. As the King of the Holy Roman Empire, Charlemagne is more comfortable wielding a sword than breaking bread. He wears his years with great pride.

Fastrada: (Female Presenting, can play 35+ years old) Pippin's conniving stepmother. A seductress, who is no stranger to deceit and betrayal, she is both sexy and smart. Skilled at using her sexual appeal to benefit her and her son.

Lewis: (Male Presenting, can play 17-30 years old) Charlemagne and Fastrada’s son. Strong and not bright. Pippin’s halfbrother and after Pippin, heir to the throne. Addicted to the physical, Lewis loves weight lifting, Lewis loves wrestling, but most of all, Lewis loves Lewis.

Berthe: (Female Presenting, can play 50+ years old) Pippin's saucy grandmother. A brassy woman full of wisdom, grace, and sass. She tries to help Pippin and encourages him to live his life to the fullest.

Catherine: (Female Presenting, can play 20-35 years old) A widow and mother. She is a beautiful and hopeless romantic, who possesses graceful elegance. Encounters Pippin at his lowest point and eventually falls in love with him.

Theo: (Male presenting, can play 7-13 years) Catherine's son.

Ensemble: (Any gender, Any Age 17+) The ensemble plays many parts including: Charlemagne's Army, Monks, Nobility, Peasants, and The Players with opportunities for expansion. In Pippin, the ensemble plays a vital role in bringing the story to life. They serve as a collective presence that supports and enhances the narrative, representing various characters, settings, and elements within the show. They create the world of Pippin, contribute to the overall storytelling, and provide a vibrant backdrop that highlights the journey and themes of the show.
